Title: Among the Echoes
Author: Aly Martinez
Series: None

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether.
I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows.
But he sees me.
Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I’m terrified he would come after me.
I’m on the run, determined not to take him down with me but absolutely unable to let him go.
My name is Riley Peterson…at least for today.

“Fuck your fairytale. I just want you. I’ll make my own God damn happily ever after. But you’re the one who is mistaken. You’ll be at the end of that story, beautiful. You either come willingly or you force me into the dark after you. It doesn’t matter to me, because either way, I’ll find you.”
Among the Echoes isn't your average romance!

This is actually the first book I read by Aly Martinez and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Meet Slate Andrews. Slate (aka Adam) is a fighter who's made millions fighting. He's a professional boxer who despite his fame hates being under the spotlight. So, everytime a game's over, he retreats in the small town he grew up in where nobody recognises him.

All Erica (aka Riley) Hill ever wanted was to have a normal life. But having spent the last three years in the witness protection program, always on the run and hiding, has made Erica realize that she'll never have what she wants. That is until she's relocated to Slate's building. Erica may be afraid of the world but when she's in Slate's arms she forgets eveything...

The first time they meet, Slate can see that Erica is terrified and wants to do anything to protect her. In the beginning, that's all that matters, protecting her. But the more he gets to know her, the more closer he wants to be. Erica thinks that with Slate she can have something she never had, but with a past like hers being with Slate means sacrifising him!

This book was beyond my expectations! I loved seeing Erica and Slate get their HEA but their stories were heart-breaking. They appeared to be so different, one was strong while the other wea, but deep down they were the same. Erica was vey intoverted at the beginning but the more she got to know Slate the more we got to see the real person that Erica was. On the other hand, Slate was a "fighter". He didn't let people get to him, he was confident, smart, hot and above everything he was a protector.

Among the Echoes was an incredible book with a nice flow, suspense, romance, a bit of action and an alpha hero. The main focus of the book was Erica and Slate's romance but there was a background story as well. I have to warn you though that the background story isn't quite pretty but explains a lot of things (like Erica's character).

As I said before, this is the first book I read by this author and it can tottally be read as a stand alone. However, I'm already planning on reading the other books in the series.

Highly recommended!
