Review: Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan

Posted on Monday, March 30, 2015 1:59 PM

Title: Archer's Voice
Author: Mia Sheridan
Series: Sign of Love

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees.
Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love.
“Sometimes an understanding silence was better than a bunch of meaningless words.”
A few weeks ago I read my very first Mia Sheridan book and I was amazed by how brilliant this author is. Kyland was such a beautiful, inspiring story that moved me. Now, having read Archer’s voice, I can’t but admit that for the first time, in a very long time, I found an author who in such a short time, managed to become one of my top five authors!

Archer’s Voice, tells the story of Archer and Bree, two young people who are fighting through life. Archer’s life has never been easy. Having lost his parents at a very young age, he was brought up by his paranoid uncle who avoided society at all costs. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Archer was sort of a pariah. He didn’t bother others and in return others didn’t bother him. Archer didn’t choose this loneliness but he had to endure it. Or so he thought!

Bree needs to forget her past but it still continue to haunt her. Moving to Pelion is supposed to help her heal. So when she meets a mysterious yet luring man, she wonders what meeting him means.

He’s a puzzle she wants to solve and keep.

They slowly become friends but their friendship steadily turns into something more. Bree is trying to protect herself by holding back but it’s unnecessary since there’s no threat. Being with Archer, spending time with him, teaching and learning from him, made Bree realize how empty her life was. Archer brought light in her life but it was she who saved him. She helped him discover himself, stand up for himself and ultimately claim what was his. His actions spoke for him.

Archer and Bree’s bond was beautiful and magical. It didn’t feel like reading a romance book but instead we follow the journey of two people who discover the true meaning of what living means.

A mesmerizing story! It was like a roller coaster. Form extreme happiness to sadness. I’m glad I read this book and I feel lucky to have met Archer and Bree. They and their story, will always stay with me.

The book is trying to teach us something: people are more than they seem and we shouldn’t judge them based on what they look or what people say about them!

Highly recommended!

Review: Darkness Eternal (Guardians of Eternity #7.5) by Alexandra Ivy

Posted on Friday, March 27, 2015 10:36 AM

Title: Darkness Eternal
Author: Alexandra Ivy
Series: Guardians of Eternity #7.5

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

For the Guardians of Eternity, battle is a way of life—whether the plight of their world is at stake, or the fate of their heart…
After being held captive by one vampire for four centuries, Kata had no intention of taking another one to the underworld with her. Yet even in the pits of Hell, there’s no ignoring the intoxicating desire awakened by Uriel’s touch...

To tell you the truth, I had no idea that the author was planning on releasing a novella for the Guardians of Eternity series, not that I’m complaining. Darkness Eternal should be read after Devoured by Darkness (Layla and Tane’s story) and before Bound by Darkness (Ariyal and Jaelyn’s story).

As Victor’s right hand, Uriel can’t but follow his master’s orders. So, when Victor orders him to find and rescue Layla’s mother, Uriel must obey.

Held prisoner by her evil vampire twin for 400 years, Kata has finally found the means to escape only to fall into another vampire’s hands. As if that wasn’t enough, Kata is literally thrown into hell and if she wants to survive she must learn to trust Uriel. Only if they work together will they be able to survive hell.

A suspenseful romantic short story about two souls who have been through a lot. Uriel is a loyal, strong, determined alpha male who would never fail his master and friend Victor. It may have started as a mission but it turned into something that neither Uriel nor Kata expected. All Kata ever wanted was her freedom and a chance to meet her daughter. Despite what her sister did to her, Kata’s spirit never weakened. So, when Uriel tags along to the journey through hell, Kata isn’t sure if she should trust him. After being alone for so long, Kata yearns to be touched but is Uriel the right choice? Little does she know that Uriel has his own secrets…

This isn’t only a romantic story. It also has a lot of action as it follows Kata and Uriel’s journey through hell and their trust issues.

What I also loved was seeing Victor. I had forgotten how much I loved Victor and Juliet and this book gave me the excuse I needed to re-read their story, Yours for Eternity. Moreover, if you’re a new reader of the series then I definitely recommend reading this novella as it will prepare you for Bound by Darkness.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book!

Totally recommended!

Excerpt

He made me feel like such a stupid little girl. He had no idea what it was like for me. None. I wanted to yell at him and slap him, but more than anything, I wanted him not to disapprove of me, and I couldn’t understand why. I’d never cared what anyone thought of me before. In fact, I’d gone out of my way to inspire less than comfortable thoughts in people. It was the way I operated. It was the way I’d survived the last few years in high school.

I realized with a start that I’d begun feeling comforted by his presence. We were building some form of quiet friendship. And the thought that he was disgusted with me caused shame to burn through my gut. But with that came anger. How dare he make me feel this way? Who was he to pass judgment on me? And pulling out what Abby would think had been such a low blow.

I was pacing back and forth, coming up with the words I would hurl at him to get even when I’d caught sight of him through the small kitchen window and stopped dead.

Tom was ripping his shirt off over his head. He flung it angrily, his bare chest heaving. Jesus, he was ripped. Picking the ax back up, ribs arching, he swung it over his head, bringing it down with such force that every muscle and sinew bulged and flexed with the power of it.

I sucked in air, realizing I’d been holding my breath. Emotion rolled off him, the air electrified. Wind I couldn’t feel tossed his hair. It was raw and almost painful to watch. He was part wild animal and part insanely beautiful human.

His body was a blur of motion, and he seemed oblivious to the icy air. A strong working body. A man’s body, not a boy’s. So much man. No muscle unused.

I’d been living with this huge, larger than life, virile male for almost two weeks.

Old fears skittered down my spine.

And then his chest wasn’t just heaving with breath, his whole body was shuddering and curling in on itself. His knees folded, hitting the ground so hard, I winced. His arms wrapped around his middle as if he was trying to hold his body together. It was at once both shockingly strange and also familiar. I knew the kind of feeling that made one’s body do that.

Pain.

The kind of pain that threatened to tear your soul in two.

Review: Total Surrender (Sin Brothers #4) by Rebecca Zanetti

Title: Total Surrender
Author: Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Sin Brothers #4

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

A fight he must win...Piper Oliver knows she can't trust him. They warned her that the tall, dark, and sexy black-ops soldier Jory Dean would try to win her over with his steel-gray eyes and deadly charm, but she won't be conned by this man they call a traitor. All she has to do is figure out the science necessary to save his life, and she's done. Something isn't adding up, though, and she won't rest until she uncovers the truth-even if it's buried in his deep, dangerous kiss.
A passion she can't resist...Jory will do anything to reunite with and save his brothers-even kidnap the gorgeous woman who's working to deactivate the deadly chip in their spines. But the forces determined to destroy his family won't let them go so easily. Keeping Piper alive is more than he bargained for-and so is his burning desire for her. But with every second bringing him closer to certain death, can he afford to lose himself in her hot and willing embrace?
“I love you, Piper. All of you. The smart, the sweet, the lost. Everything you are and whoever you’ll eventually become.”
The story of the Dean Brothers has come to an end. A long awaited one! The final battle won’t be easy but nothing ever was for the brothers.

Created and trained by the Commander to be the perfect soldiers: merciless with heightened senses and special abilities, the only thing they ever wanted was their freedom. Five years ago, they managed to escape the Commander and burn down the facility in which they were held but at what cost?!

Shane, Matt and Nate have all found their HEAs maybe it’s Jory’s time to find his.

Total surrender tells the story of the youngest brother Jory who was presumed dead. Turns out that after a mission gone wrong, the Commander managed to recapture him. Now, two years later, Jory has finally regained his strength and has only one goal: save his brothers.

Piper isn’t a hero but she’s definitely intelligent. As one of the best hackers, Piper’s job is to repair Jory’s killing chip. The killing chips are devices that were put near the spines of each brother, as a means to control them and that will kill them if they aren’t deactivated by the right code. Piper has been warned not to trust Jory. She considers him a traitor of his country. If only she knew the truth!

Jory considers telling her the truth. He wants to trust her with his past but he knows better than that. The truth will get her killed. Their relationship is off the charts from the beginning.
They may not trust each other but they can’t deny what they feel.
Jory sees her as a way to escape but Piper’s motives are more personal. So, when things spin out of control and the traitor’s words make more sense, her choice isn’t hard to make.

Wow! The romance, the action, the suspense, the Dean Brothers all in one book. The romance between Piper and Jory builds up gradually but the passion is there from the beginning. Jory is a professional when it comes to seduction and with Piper he can’t but use his best moves. They were such an incredibly adorable and strong couple.
“I’m the hero of my own damn story, Jory Dean. Protect me all you want, but this once, I’m needed with you. War or not”
I think this book was the one with the most action. Being the last book in the series, I definitely expected more action and I wasn’t disappointed at all. There were many twists and turns, many surprises, many unexpected scenes and many incredible characters. Each book tells the story of a different brother but we always get to see how the others are doing. Total surrender was no different. We get to see Shane and Josie, Matt and Laney, Nate and Audrey and many new characters. We get some scenes from their POVs too.

I know that this is supposed to be the last book in the series but I hope there are more. I don’t want to spoil anything but there are some new characters, very connected to the Dean brothers, who need their stories.

You shouldn’t miss this one! Fast paced, full of action, suspense and romance, total surrender captivated me.

Highly recommended!

Review: Cupid's Desire (G Street Chronicles Presents) by Phoenix Rayne

Title: Cupid's Desire
Author: Phoenix Rayne
Series: G Street Chronicles Presents

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Alareik is a Cupid, and get that image of a diapered baby with a bow and arrow right out of your head. Cupids are all six foot Gods of love, invisible to the mortal's eyes, who are sent down to Earth with their daily assignments…to help mortals fall in love.

Alareik is the most popular Cupid out there, and not only is he the hottest Cupid but he’s the most compassionate. Alareik stumbles across a mortal who has a third eye. Sapphire, a waitress no one would take a second glance at, can see the invisible Cupids. Alareik has never met a mortal who could do this. He’s put on a special assignment to figure her out.

Alareik willingly accepts this task and finds himself falling for the plain and peculiar girl. Sapphire’s love for life changes this Cupid’s heart forever.
The first book I read by Phoenix Rayne was really fast paced.

Alareik is our tall dark haired cupid who has been tasked with looking after Sapphire, a waitress with really bad luck. Alareik is moved by her misfortune and that marks their fate. His need to protect and care for her leads him to do the unthinkable: he, the cupid, falls in love with a human. But can they really have a relationship?

The obstacles are many and so are the objections. Is there really hope for these two? Will the cupid get his love? One thing is for sure: you will never see the end coming!

Cupid’s desire was a fast paced, fantasy – romance book. You certainly won’t be disappointed. We have two amazing main characters and numerous secondary ones. Some are good while others are not so good. What’s important though, is the fact that Alareik and Sapphire’s love will enthrall you.

A story of true love (without an arrow, I may add). They both deserve each other. They find one another at a time when they both need each other the most. They are lost but they discover themselves.

An amazing read!

Totally recommended!
